Certified Government Auditing Professional
Ceritifed government auditing professionals are professionals that specialize in auditing public sector organizations.
The Certified Government Auditing Professional (CGAP) designation is bestowed upon members accepted into the professional—and internationally recognized—association The Insitute of Internal Auditors (IIA) who, through their accreditation process, maintain the professional standards of the discipline.
The IIA is a historically renowned organization, founded in 1941, with international ties across the globe with more than 180 thousand members. They even offer twelve diverse awards to promote performance and contribution in the field and have diversity initiatives to ensure the internal auditing community is fair to all and helps disadvantaged individuals and groups who need representation. Additionally, the association is partnered with eleven corporations to promote the IIA brand. Through their historic efforts the IIA has established—and continues to—ensure the certified internal auditor profession is recognized.
This designation is accessible to people who have a 4-year post-secondary degree, five years of internal auditing experience coupled with two years of post-secondary educational experience, or at least seven years of internal auditing experience. The program is offered in a self-study format and the exam study guide only costs CAD 100 and the examination itself costs only between $350 to $450. It is highly affordable for anyone educated enough to take the examination. It is increadibly affordable and is basically a steal at such a low price.
The designation, according to their website, provides information that is applicable in all components of the public sector, can increase your annual pay by half, and give you authority in the field as a professional.
