Chiropractors practise an alternative medecine called chiropracty which involves treating disorders and illnesses associated with the musculoskeletal system. They help relieve their patients of issues affecting their mobility and joints.
The title of chiropractor is bestowed upon members of the Ordre professionnel des chiropraticiens du Québec [Order of Quebec Chiropractors]. This order, headquartered in Montréal, is mandated by the Office des professions du Québec [Office of Quebec Professions] which means their members have the exclusive right to hold the the title and practise the profession.
The order was founded in 1973 and boasts a large social media presence with their own YouTube channel. They also have their own investigative system that succinctly explains how their process works (through four steps) and the reparations a complaintant is entitled to if a member acts unprofessional or overcharges for their services. Furthermore, besides their disciplinary service, they also offer their very own magazine publication, called Diagnostic, highlighting all the current trends and issues facing the profession.
Applicants interested in joining the order are required to speak French at a professional level and must hold a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from a recognized university. Such a degree would also require a bachelor’s degree focused on science or a diplôme d’études collégiales (DEC) [College Diploma] in science. Additionally, they must pass two exams: an ethical examination from the order and the Canadian Chiropractic Exam offered by the Canadian Chiropractic Examination Board (CCEB).
Being mandated by the Office des professions du Québec, the designation gives members the right to practise the discipline and is sure to give applicants entry to a rich and fulfilling career.
