Denturist are dental professionals that provide oral health services to patients in need of an oral prosthesis such as dentures, implants, and more.
The title of denturist is bestowed upon members of the Ordre des denturologistes du Québec [Order of Quebec Denturologists] (ODQ). This order, headquartered in Longueil, is mandated by the Office des professions du Québec [Office of Quebec Professions] which means their members have the exclusive right to hold the the title and practise the profession.
The ODQ maintains the standards of the field through their disciplinary process that responds to complaints against members of the order which can lead to reparations for the loss incurred by complaintants. They also support their professional community through other means such as through their magazine Présence, published four times a year, that informs members of current events and trends occuring in the world of denturism.
To become a denturist, an applicant must complete a diplôme d’études collégiales (DEC in Quebec) in denturism which takes about three years to complete. Additionally, as with all professional orders located in Quebec, applicants must be able to speak French at a professional level of proficiency.
Being mandated by the Office des professions du Québec, the designation gives members the right to practise the discipline and is sure to give applicants entry to a rich and fulfilling career.
